Kay WalkingStick and Kathleen Ash-Milby

 

The Gaelen Lecture will highlight artist Kay WalkingStick in conversation with Kathleen Ash-Milby. Kathleen Ash-Milby is Associate Curator at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) in New York. Kay WalkingStick is one of the best-known living Native American artists and has created iconic paintings featured in numerous exhibitions and publications.

 

 

Educators earn 2 hours of PD credit.

 

Students must show a valid Student ID with their ticket at the door.

Fun with Typography

Typography predates modern graphic design by around 500 years; it remains an exciting space for invention and expression. Parent/Child Ceramics (Ages 9-12)

Work together with your child to make a textured tile or wall hanging and experiment with throwing on the potters wheel. Workshop participants will view demonstrations of the various steps involved in wheel throwing and have time for guided practice. Additionally, participants will use a variety of stamps and texturing implements to design their own tile or wall piece. Students are encouraged to bring texture objects to class. Price is per parent and child pair.

MAM invites people living with dementia and their care partners to explore art together during this free, interactive gallery program. Join MAM docents and educators in engaging with current exhibition through gallery conversations and hands-on activities. To make a reservation, please call 973-259-5136 or contact tours@montclairartmuseum.org. We request that each person with dementia is accompanied by one family member or caregiver. Coordinators at care facilities, please contact us to make an appointment for your group.

Create with clay while sipping cabernet! Gather your friends to try your hands at the potter's wheel in a relaxed, fun, and light-hearted environment. After an instructor demonstration, participants will make wheel thrown objects such as cups, bowls, or vases. Select from a variety of glazes to complete your piece. Finished pieces will be ready to pick up in two to three weeks, on average. Event is BYOB; light snacks are provided. All wheel throwing materials are provided.
